I am an accomplished arranger for a capella singing groups, taking current songs and rearranging the parts, using voice for instruments. I have used Finale and Harmony Assistant. I am now looking to compose my own music on my computer...
What I'm looking for is a program where I can compose on my PC, not through instrument recording, so that the program offers all instrument composition, including drums. I also want to be able to record voice singing the melody/harmony of the songs. Also, I want to be able to then burn all the composed music and recorded voice on CD. Basically, exactly what was done in "Coyote Ugly" when she did everything on her computer and sent out CDs. Sheet music is not necessary.
I have Windows XP, 128 on my laptop. Any suggestions on programs where I can do all this, or if I need a combo of different programs?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! |

The best way to go is to use what we call a Production Suite, this gives you pretty much everything in one package, although you can add to their capabilities with plugins - extra effects, instruments etc.
A basic free one is Music Studio Producer although you will need plenty of VSTi Plugins to give you all the sounds you want.
The more capable packages aren't free, but they really do do everything you want. These includes programs such as Cakewalk and Cubase. You'll find them and many more at

If you're chosen system doesn't include CD burning software then you will need to get that too - you can find those at

Hope this helps,
Jason. |
