|
|
Sorry for the newbie question but...
I'm a guitar player who plays live and would like to occasionally add keyboard and drums as accompaniment. I haven't done much w/ midi, but have a decent midi keyboard (M-Audio Prokeys 8 and drum machine (Alesis SR-16), as well as a nice laptop, so thought it might make sense to use the laptop as a sequencer to control the keyboard and drum machine.
So, I've been checking out all sorts of software from simple free stuff to Cubase, Reason, and Sonar. It's all rather overwhelming.
I'd like to select software that is appropriate for what I'm trying to do above, but eventually I'd like to grow into doing some home recording and possibly production - and I'd prefer to go through this learning curve once. Does anybody have any recommendations on specific software, or pointers to resources that would help me decide what I need?
Thanks,
-Mike |

Thanks, Barry. That one was on my list. I'm trying to whiddle down the list. But I'm definitely keeping that one ON the list. As I read through more review and stuff, I'm also becoming increasingly interested in Cubase. |

Mackie has a product, Tracktion, which is in the second release that may be able to do what you need, plus grow into your future needs.
I prefer Cakewalks' Pro Audio for sequencing and recording, but I do use Tracktion to finalize the audio tracks. It has some sweet mastering tools.
Enjoy your Holidays, |

| I've been checking out Ableton Live. A lite version came with my M-Audio Firewire Audiophile audio interface (which is excellent, by the way). This looks like it might be just the tool I've been looking for.[/quote] |
