My 11 year old son is wanting to learn how to "mix". He currently will listen to 2 CD players to try to accomplish the result, but i was wondering what software would be best for a beginner who is wanting to learn how to "mix"?
Also, for me, i would like it to be able to take cassette and change to audio files and then be able to mix and match parts of that audio file.

Hi there is a good freeware mix app out on the net called audacity I have used it to move tapes to CD and many other things as for your son this program will let him import MP3’s and he can use one of the many plug-ins on the program to create a mix of what he wants its can be found at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ if you want to port the mixes out as MP3’s you will have to download the lame plug in help can be found on this in the program

Better yet get Mixmeister Express and he will make awesome mixes right away as the program automatically mixes or you can mix manually.
The best is Mixmeister Pro 6.

But if he really want to learn how to beatmatch/mix then he should check Deejaysystem Mk-I which is freeware. It's an audio player that emulates a real DJ-CD player (the Denon Dn-2000F CDJ).

Let him practise on real mixing so when he would like to move to real decks he'll know how to do it properly. But if he only want to make some mixed CD's then buy him MixMeister Express, it's an excellent software for this purporse. |
