Cool Edit pro volume issues - help!!!

Hi guys, this is probably the most simple of problems ever but i just cant seem to fathom it !!

Ive been trying to record using Cooledit from my Sienheiser mic thru the mic port of my pc, all the recording levels on the windows mixer at fully up, however when I goto record, the levels are still extremely quiet.....

Any ideas?
