Be careful with these ppl and check them out before recording with them because they're running a bit of a dodgy singing comp atm, see http://jam.hitsquad.com/vocal/viewtopic.php?t=864
If you're under 18 I'd suggest taking your parents along with you if you go to their studio - and make sure you ask them to prove they have the rights to use the backing tracks they're offering for free.
They sound way to cheap for my liking - and combined with the dodgy song comp I'd steer clear. |

| Ive not heard of the Mike, thanks for the putting the flag up. We (LAND) are recording next month but are going to book local, and it sounds too cheap, going rate for an 8hr day 16-24 track is about £150, we are getting a deal for £110, get about 2 or 3 demo's done in that time. |

Hello, I am part of the team who are running this competition and co run the studio... are we cheap - That's good right?
So many people say we are 'too' cheap. We are cheap and that is the whole point... thats why we started.
We have a HOME set up, we charge accordingly and cater firstly to singers who need a high quality demo, or singers needing a showreel for agencies etc.
We provide that service for £60 as we don't see why people should pay more when it sometimes only takes 1hour to complete
EVERY SINGLE person who has recorded with us has been happy and many are repeat customers. We charge £35 p/h for original material where we are writing the music.
========= COMPETITION =========
As for the competition, we have indeed now secured sponsor for the radio plugging. The terms reflected that we would deliver the maximum amount of 'prize' per entrants. Example, if only 10 people entered, we would not be able to afford the £3000+ for the promo ... we're not a charity.
We wanted to be upfront with that and anyway, we had the deal going through with the sponsor which we have completed and the site will be updated to reflect the good news this week.
I fully endors passing the word on shady companies, but please try and contact the company first for some feedback!
Thank you! |

Of course you arent a charity, or a business for that matter. Both a charity and business would have secured the prizes prior to running the competition.
If I enter a competition for a car I expect one person to win that car, not only if enough people enter to pay for the darned thing. That's absurd and a ripp off!
The fact you have secured a prize now doesn't matter. What you did was absolutely pathetic.
You came here, borderline spammed a message board, gave some very shady terms and conditions, some of which people would consider to be a scam.
I have zero respect for your company now, and I'll be sure to spread the word about what I think, not your bullshit response here. |

We did secure the prizes? You're talking about the radio promo which is one of the prizes.... the main prize was of course secured.
and we will hopefully add more prizes to the competition over the coming months. We see nothing wrong in adding a prize if we can at no extra cost to the entrant - as a bonus.
You seem very pationate about this! We've built up a good reputation in the industry and you seem like you have had a bad deal with someone or a company?
We're proud of our competition. We are exciting to find 3 winners and record to a very high standard and promote their work(s). |

I feel this will go back and forth and whilst I didn't want to go into detail about our studio, competition, production and songwriting history with someone agrssive like you, I know you're going to have more issues with anything I say ...
... so here's a bit more info (that I would have gladly sent you had you asked!!) to show you, and others how unreasonable you are being...
The term in our competition that said "if we don't have enough entrants we may have to limit the amount of radio promo" was what shocked you.
Firstly that's obvious because the competition generates money which is put back into the winners pot - Radio promo (which is one of the prizes) is expensive and we will pay for as much as we can out of accumilated funds ...
We had meeting with the company that will be doing the radio promo with way before release of competition and made sure they are Musician Union approved.
... and they agreed .... however, whilst we (applebeam) negotiated our deal with them, I (being too honest apparently) put the note on our website - just in case they backed out last minute. Most people wouldn't have done this but I did because I run a fair, respectable business and I want everything to be upfont.
FACT:
he deal was there with the promo company and us, it was just our terms that were being ironed out... boy, I can't believe you're so interested in this!
SO WHAT IS THE WINNERS PRIZE?
The main prize is the recording session. With 2 days at £35 that's a lot of money saved!
We will be producing a stunning demo for the winner and it will be released through online distribution incl all the major sites i-tunes etc.
That is something most people can do themselves I hear you groan, yes, but it makes a huge difference when a company who literally invented the download software used by major sites like Tiscali, AOL etc is the one taking on your product ... also its the way its done that counts ... we are using a company that has expertise in releasing material this way with an affiliate with OD2. Where you are placed counts, following up and actively promoting counts...
If anyone reading this HAS made a demo with us, or seen how we run our small but committed fair business, please please tell this guy that he's way off here!!! |

it's not just one guy who thinks the entire deal to begin with was suss.
What would have been done with the extra funds received for the comp if you didn't receive enough to pay for the promo. Refund a percentage? pffft |

| No. Refund all the money (as our terms state). We have a large US company as a promotion partner on this so everything is done legitimately. |
